Pilgrimage Festival in Franklin, Tennessee has easily become one of my favorite music events of the year. I enjoy everything about it. The tunes, food, familiar faces, riding bikes to and from..the fact that it’s half a mile from my mama’s house. Talk about convenience! Last year, I was asked to do a painting for the festival. It took me days to decide what and who to paint, but I finally decided on a portrait of Gary Clark Jr. I’ve been a fan of his music for years, and it just seemed fitting to paint him! I used black acrylic paint with a fluid medium on this piece. I get a laugh thinking back about saying yes to this project. I misunderstood and thought it was a small 8x10 INCH canvas. I realized I was sorely mistaken when an 8x10 FOOT roll of canvas landed on my doorstep. The only wall in my house that would cater to this size was in my bedroom. I took down every mirror and photo hanging, shoved all my furniture to the other side of the room and nailed it on the wall. It was a cramped few days, but I couldn’t have been happier with how it turned out.
